What is maximum supply?

Maximum supply is the highest number of coins or tokens that can ever be created for a cryptocurrency. Once it is reached, no new units are produced.

Why it matters

Bitcoin, for example, has a maximum supply of 21 million. A capped supply is often highlighted as a feature meant to limit inflation, though not every asset has one.
